Dr. Cohall is a graduate of St John University (BS 1988), New York Theological Seminary, Masters of Divinity (MDiv, 1993), Doctor of Ministry (DMin 2000), and Fordham University Graduate School of Education (Doctor of Philosophy (PhD., 2006). He served as an Adjunct Professor in the Graduate School of Education at Fordham University, St John Fisher College and currently as Dean, Vice President for Academic Affairs, and Director of Religious Education at New York Theological Seminary, where he has also taught in the Sing Sing Correctional Facility Masters Degree program.
Dr. Cohall’s area of specialty is in the field of Educational Leadership, Administration and Policy where he has published and continues to research the impact of postmodernism on adolescent spirituality. Additionally, his teaching assignments include the following courses: Foundation of Religious Education, Developmental Perspectives in Religious Education, Leadership Culture and Identity, Educating and Leading a Diverse Learning Organization, Curriculum Development, Seminar in Educational Research.
The Rev. Dr. Kirkpatrick Cohall also serves as Senior Pastor for the Lenox Road Baptist Church in Brooklyn New York, an American Baptist congregation for most of its one hundred and thirty seven years history. Prior to his pastoral service, Dr Cohall worked as a Medical Technologist at the Memorial Sloane Kettering Cancer Research Hospital in New York City, for more than eleven years before making the bold and courageous change in his career path to fulfill a call to pastoral ministry.
Rev. Cohall has exhibited visionary leadership in the urban community where his ministry is located. The community represents a diversity of individuals from across the city of New York as well as other parts of the world. During the seventeen years of his leadership, the ministry has rebuilt a six million dollar worship facility, and developed an educational and recreational complex. This facility offers computer training, summer day camp, G.E.D classes, a Bible Institute, basketball, and other recreational activities geared to keep at risk youth off the streets. Under his leadership the church has developed several out-reach programs such as health fairs, and marriage and family counseling, geared to the holistic empowerment of the family. Dr. Cohall continues to work closely with community leaders, the police department and the health facilities in addressing issues such as teenage pregnancies, youth gang activities and a host of health related issues facing the community.
Rev. Cohall served on several boards of institutions that continue to have a positive impact in the community and the nation. Those boards include Anchor House a drug and alcohol treatment and rehabilitation center, and the general board of the American Baptist Churches USA. He is a past president of the Board of International Ministries of the American Baptist Churches overseeing missionaries serving in all six continents.
Rev. Cohall and his wife Sophia, have been married for 25 years, and are the proud parents of two children, Shannon and Kirk.
